Open States Counselling Options for Tamil Nadu Students
Several states in India allow students from other regions to apply for private/management seats in their medical colleges. These are called **Open States**. Applying in these states provides a backup when local cutoff percentages are high.
Karnataka (KEA Portal)
Karnataka is the most popular open state because of its high-quality medical training and affordable private college fees (starting around ₹10.9L per year).
- Counselling Authority: Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).
- Eligibility: Candidates who qualified NEET can register for private open quota (O-Quota) seats.
- Top Colleges: MS Ramaiah Medical College, Kempegowda Institute (KIMS), St. John's, Father Muller.
Pondicherry (CENTAC Portal)
Due to geographical proximity, Pondicherry is an ideal location for Tamil Nadu students. Private colleges have separate management seats.
- Counselling Authority: Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC).
- Private Colleges: Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Sri Manakula Vinayagar, Venkateshwara Medical College.
- Open Seat Fees: Range from ₹16.00 Lakhs to ₹20.00 Lakhs / Year.

Kerala private colleges have lower fees (approx ₹6.5L - ₹8.5L/year) but cutoff scores are extremely high (520+ NEET scores). Register via KEAM portal.
Andhra Pradesh
Admissions via NTRUHS. Private colleges have Management Quota Category-B seats open to other state students. Fees around ₹12L/year.
Telangana
Admissions via KNRUHS. Management quota (Cat-B) seats do not require local nativity, allowing admissions for qualified students.
